London, UK – Cero Generation (“Cero”), a leading specialist in solar energy development, production, and battery storage across Europe, today announced that Francesca Di Carlo has been appointed non-executive Chairperson.

Francesca’s appointment will bring fresh perspectives and seasoned guidance to the Cero board. Her expertise will be pivotal as the company advances the development of over 370 utility-scale solar and battery projects across its 25GW European pipeline—one of the largest in Europe.

Francesca previously worked at Enel Group where she held several roles, including Executive Vice President of Global Procurement, Executive Vice President of Human Resources and Organisation, Head of Corporate Strategy, Executive Vice President of the Group Audit Department, and executive member of the Risk Control and Remuneration Committees.

Francesca spearheaded Enel’s procurement efforts for a significant investment program, helping the company to achieve ambitious CO2 emission reduction targets as well as implementing a comprehensive sustainability program covering environmental and social aspects. She also played a pivotal role in Enel’s digital transformation alongside the Chief Technology Officer, overseeing the company’s transition to remote work during the Covid pandemic and beyond.

Prior to Enel Group, Francesca worked for Telecom Italia Group, where she was part of the team leading the privatisation of the company. She also worked as Chairperson of Stream, a satellite TV platform, where she was responsible for completing the merger with Tele +, becoming a Director of Sky Italy, as a representative of Telecom Italia. Francesca was also Chairperson of Telespazio during its managed sale to the Finmeccanica Group.

Edward Northam, outgoing Chairman of Cero Generation and Head of Core Renewables for MAM Green Investments, said: “We are delighted to welcome Francesca as Chairperson. Her exceptional track record in guiding high-performance teams, implementing ESG frameworks, and driving digital transformation aligns seamlessly with Cero’s ambitious growth plans.

I am pleased to be handing on the role of Chair at a time when Cero has established itself as one the leading developers and operators of utility-scale solar and battery storage in Europe, and I look forward to continuing to support Cero as a board director. We have in place an experienced team of over 140 specialists working across eight European locations, and a clear plan to continue originating more projects and bringing them into operation.”

Francesca Di Carlo, incoming Non-Executive Chairperson of Cero Generation said, “I am delighted to be joining Cero at this exciting point in the Company’s continued growth. Cero is both purpose-led, and performance-driven, and the Company’s plans align with my experience and aspirations.  I look forward to supporting Cero in this exciting next phase of its evolution”.
